Roger Garaudy died aged 98

French revisionist Roger Garaudy, author of over 50 books, has died at the age of 98 on June 15, 2012. During World War II, Roger Garaudy was a member of the French Resistance. After the war he was temporarily a member of the French Communist party, but in 1982 he converted to Islam. With this new outlook, he also looked critically into the policies and founding myths of Israel, which led to his revisionist book The Founding Myths of Israeli Politics. When Garaudy's long-time friend Abbé Pierre, a French celebrity, publicly endorsed the book, this caused a scandal in France. On Feb. 27, 1998, a French court banned the book and sentenced Garaudy to pay a fine of 120,000 francs ($18,000).
