Edward “Ted” Kennedy (February 22, 1932 – August 25, 2009) was a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. Kennedy, a member of the Democratic Party served nearly 47 years in the Senate. He was the last surviving son of Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., who served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1938 to 1940. He was the brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
