In 2002 Meyer, a German mainstream journalist, published a semi-revisionist paper in a minor mainstream journal in which he “downgraded” Auschwitz not only by drastically reducing its alleged death toll, but also by decommissioning most of the homicidal gas chambers said to have been in operation in that camp. For this he drew fire from all side – by the orthodox for stepping over the line, and by revisionists for being neither fish nor flesh.
