Mussolini Rescued 1943 (6:08 Min)

Published: 2020-10-14

In this 6 minute video (in Italian) we see the rescue of Benito Mussolini by German Special Forces in a film of the time of the event in 1943. Having been deposed by a coup, he was taken from place to place to prevent rescue. At the time of the rescue he was at a difficult to access mountain resort in Abruzzo. On the 12th of September, 1943, Waffen SS troops and Paratroops led by Major Otto-Harald Mors rescued Mussolini, by a brilliant combined glider and ground attack, capturing the 200 guards without a shot being fired. Mussolini was later flown off the mountain in a light aircraft. Later he saw Hitler at his Rastenburg Headquarters in East Prussia. Benito was a shadow of his former self. However, Mussolini returned to Italy, and at Salo, set up an Italian Social Republic (RSI). The RSI lasted for 18 months, and just before its collapse, Mussolini was captured by communists. On the 28th of April 1945, he was murdered alongside his mistress, Clara Petacci, who had flung herself in front of him. The bodies of Mussolini, Petacci, and several others were later taken to an Esso petrol station in Milan and hung upside down from the roof. A communist mob then vented their rage on the corpses.
