Serge Thion was born in 1942. From 1971 to 2000 he worked as a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) focusing on Cambodia and Vietnam. In 1980 he published the book Vérité Historique Ou Vérité Politique? (Historical Truth or Political Truth?) chronicling the affair Robert Faurisson. Ever since he has been closely associated with revisionist activities in France, although usually in a rather clandestine way. In 1993 Thion privately published the revisionist book Une Allumette sur la banquise (“A Matchstick on Pack Ice”). In November 2000 he was dismissed from the CNRS for his revisionist activities. He was condemned and fined for defamation in December 2002 in France for critiquing the French writer Didier Daeninckx. Thion attended the 2006 revisionist conference in Tehran. Israeli philosopher Elhanan Yakira has cited Thion as one of a number of revisionists on the radical left in France whose views on the Holocaust have made revisionism “a central issue in France and elsewhere.”
