Denial on Prime Time TV

The runaway-popular series The Good Wife is in its fifth season this year. In its second episode, "The Bit Bucket," aired this past week, the heroes are suing the NSA for damaging their client, a social-networking site of which Facebook would be an example in the real world.

The NSA, to discredit Chum Hum (the Facebook stand-in), puts a supposed Holocaust survivor on the witness stand to convey the bad feelings he experienced when seeing the page Chum Hum hosted for a "Holocaust denier" (stand-in for Bradley Smith and similar stalwarts). When the witness displays his forearm to a jury too far away to see anything on it, the NSA's lawyer proclaims, "Let the record show that the witness has a tattoo from Auschwitz on his arm," a stunt redolent of the execrable modus operandi of Nuremberg.

The president of Chum Hum (a clearly Jewish character named Gross) is put on the stand to be excoriated for his heinous crime. His only defense is that his company practices freedom of speech for all its users!

The program manages to present all this without appearing itself to take any sort of position on the issues(s). Visit us on Facebook!
