Rudolf Walter Richard Hess (born April 26, 1894, Alexandria, Egypt; murdered Aug. 17, 1987) was a Adolf Hitler's deputy until he was taken captive by the British in 1941 when trying to end the war. He spent the rest of his life in Allied captivity in Berlin-Spandau as a prisoner of peace, and was ultimately murdered by the British when Mikhail Gorbachev lobbied to release him.
