Allied Massacres at Dachau at “Liberation” (1:21:00)
Allied massacres at Dachau at "liberation."
Focal Point presents this video (one hour and 21 minutes) about the massacres of German prisoners at Dachau carried out by the US Army in 1945. After a short introduction by David Irving, Charles Provan, an American researcher gives a speech about the events when the US Army entered the camp. Charles found out accidentally about the massacres after looking into details about Georg Konrad Morgen, a SS Judge. The files of the Dachau massacre were supposed to be destroyed by the US Army, but were actually mis-filed. Charles says that the units involved were the 45th US Infantry Division and the 42nd US Infantry Division. Both units murdered German prisoners, who were trying to surrender. Charles states that at Buchenwald, that 80 SS soldiers were murdered by Communists after they had surrendered. A train had been sent from Buchenwald to Dachau, containing detainees. They had ran out of food, as the journey had taken much longer than expected. The train had also been strafed by US aircraft. The train had just arrived at the camp. Both US units entered the camp seeing this train, and both wrongly assumed that the prisoners had been machine-gunned by the Germans. Charles goes on to explain how this led to the tragic events that followed.
