A Collection of German Newsreels from War world II (English Subtitles)
This video (one hour and 26 minutes) shows 11 episodes of the German Weekly News. These were newsreels shown to German civilians throughout the war. The newsreels are in their original German with English subtitles added. All the newsreels cover the situation in France between August 1942 until July 1944.
Dates of the newsreels (with comments) are:-
- August 1 to 7, 1942. The building of the Atlantic wall on the French coast.
- August 8 to 14, 1942. Reinforcements are sent to France. The 1st SS Panzer Division (Adolf Hitler's Lifeguards) parade through Paris on the way to the coast.
- August 24 to 30, 1942. More work on the Atlantic Wall.
- February 1944. Activity in France. Rommel is inspecting the fortifications.
- April 18 to 24, 1944. More work on the Atlantic Wall.
- May 23 to 29, 1944. More work on the Atlantic Wall.
- June 13 to 20, 1944. The American attack on Europe. The 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitler Youth) is shown.
- June 21 to 28, 1944. Heavy fighting in France. The 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitler Youth) is shown.
- June 29 to July 5, 1944. Heavy fighting in France. The 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitler Youth) is shown.
- July 6 to 12, 1944. Heavy fighting in France. Heavy casualties caused by the RAF to French civilians, over 10,000.
- July 13 to 20, 1944. Heavy fighting in France. Germans receive medals for gallantry, one Lt Franz Ludwig destroyed 16 enemy tanks. American prisoners are shown.
All sorts of weapons, vehicles, including Tiger and Panther tanks, artillery both self-propelled and towed, rocket launchers are shown in these highly interesting newsreels.
