In this video (1 hour and one minute) Doctor Matthew Raphael-Johnson looks at the attack on Greece which was ordered by Mussolini, the Italian Fascist Leader in 1940, and its effect on Germany, who had to intervene, after the Italian forces were defeated. Dr Johnson states that Germany had no choice but to ally itself with Italy as no other country was interested, but Hitler had little time for Mussolini, or the Italian forces. According to the narrator, Mussolini was ignorant and incompetent. His leadership in the Second World War has led to Italy’s military capabilities being regarded as laughable, even today. Italy under Mussolini also caused chaos in Yugoslavia. Two hundred thousand Italian soldiers were captured in Africa by a much smaller British force, and had to be rescued by the Afrika Korps. Mussolini’s attack on Greece is normally regarded as a big mistake, and again German intervention was necessary. Raphael- Johnson explains the reasons for Mussolini’s attack on Greece, stating the Rothschilds, the Jewish bankers had influence in Greek, especially among the liberal elements there. An excellent analysis, which shows how the Axis powers did not co-operate fully with each other and that Hitler only heard the news of Mussolini’s attack on Greece, and Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor on the regular news.
