Mark Weber Myths about World War II
Mark Weber Myths about World War II
In this (33 minutes) video, Mark Weber, makes a speech about the myths in WWII. Mark says it is a national myth that America fought a "good" war. Mark notes that the USA had as its allies, the British Empire and the Soviet Union, a communist tyranny. Mark states that the D-Day landings are a central part of the American mythos. Mark goes to say that the USA wanted war with Germany, but Germany tried to avoid a war with the USA. Mark explains that all American wars are for "freedom" and are "good" against "bad". A myth is that American soldiers are brave and capable. Films always show a small number of US troops defeating a larger number of Germans. Mark refers to a study by Max Hastings that proved that when forces were equal, then German forces normally prevailed. Mark examines the role of WW2 and its effects on European Civilisation. A superb speech!
