Michael Santomauro for Mayor
The mayor's race for Hilton Head Island, South Carolina (pop. 38,000) has heated up with the candidacy of Michael Santomauro. Although Santomauro's main issues are limiting traffic, halting excessive development on the Island, and controlling improper use of governmental funds, he has also made a much-needed stand in favor of free speech. His website is here.
He is opposing the new South Carolina state law defining criticism of Israel as "hate speech." The law targets pro-Palestinian activist groups with the threat of civil-rights lawsuits. Santomauro has also defended the right of revisionists to research and discuss history.
In this time of politically correct hysteria, it takes a brave and principled person to stand up for free speech. Good luck, Michael! We are glad Hilton Head survived the hurricane with little damage.
