Hans Schmidt’s Dramatic Aaccount of his Incarceration in “Democratic” Germany

Hans Schmidt has just published a memoir of his 1995 incarceration by the German thought-police, Jailed in 'Democratic' Germany: The Ordeal of an American Writer. As many SR readers will remember, Schmidt was grabbed by German thought police while returning home from Germany in the summer of 1995. The 68-year-old writer was arrested and imprisoned in a fortress-like prison at Buetzow. It would be months before Schmidt managed to return to his home in Florida.

What was Schmidt’s “crime?” This daring German nationalist dared to criticize the current regime running Germany in a publication written in the United States. Readers of this volume will learn, as did Schmidt, that the U.S. State Department does not protest the imprisonment of its citizens for certain politically incorrect ideas.

Schmidt’s volume assails human rights abuses practiced today in Germany, as well as attacks on our own rights to freedom of speech and expression. In return for this service. Jailed in 'Democratic’ Germany is already prohibited in Germany. This forthright documentation of Schmidt’s Orwellian ordeal should awaken patriots around the globe.     Richard A. Widmann, together with David Thomas, created modern CODOH as we know it, when he talked Bradley Smith into creating what was then called CODOHWeb, CODOH's online presence in 1995/1996. In 1999, Richard Widmann was among the team that launched and ran the revisionist periodical The Revisionist, until it was taken over by Germar Rudolf in 2003. When this project collapsed in 2005 with Rudolf's arrest, deportation and 44-months imprisonment, Richard Widmann, after some hesitation, created a new revisionist periodical in 2009 called Inconvenient History, which he issued until 2017, when this project, too, was once more taken over by Germar Rudolf.

    British historian David Irving was viciously smeared by the media after his testimony at the 1988 Ernst Zündel false-news trial in Toronto. As part of the smear campaign against Irving, Deborah Lipstadt writes in her book Denying the Holocaust that “on some level Irving seems to conceive himself as carrying on Hitler’s legacy.” David Irving filed a libel suit against Deborah Lipstadt in British courts to attempt to end these and other similar statements. Canadian-Jewish architectural historian Robert Jan van Pelt was hired by Lipstadt’s defense team to act as an expert witness for Lipstadt’s defense. Van Pelt wrote for this trial a 700-page report addressing the historical and forensic evidence for the gas chambers at Auschwitz-Birkenau. He subsequently wrote the book, The Case for Auschwitz, which presents the bulk of the evidence he submitted in his expert report for this trial. This article discusses some weaknesses in van Pelt’s research which was designed to discredit David Irving’s views of the “Holocaust.”
