Peter Somegyi, a Jew, was interned after the German invasion of Hungary and sent to Auschwitz in 1944.

In this clip he claims that Doctor Josef Menegele ordered him to look after and sleep with a deformed dwarf.
In June 1941 Mengele was posted to Ukraine, where he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class. In January 1942, he joined the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking as a battalion medical officer. After rescuing two German soldiers from a burning tank, he was decorated with the Iron Cross 1st Class, the Wound Badge in Black, and the Medal for the Care of the German People. He was declared unfit for further active service in mid-1942, when he was seriously wounded. He was sent to Auschwitz as a doctor. Menegele was the holder of two doctorates and a researcher in genetic deformities.

    Peter Somogyi and his twin brother Thomas were the youngest of three children born to an observant Jewish family living in Pécs, Hungary. Between 1933-39, a German nanny took care of Peter, Thomas and their older sister. She taught them German, and they became quite fluent. On September 1, 1939, they began school. Five years later, they were deported to Auschwitz with their mother and sister. After the Soviets conquered Auschwitz on January 27, 1945, Peter and his family returned to Pecs before immigrating to Israel in mid-1949.
